Membership

Who are HRCP members and what do they do?
Our members come from all walks of life—the media, legal profession, judiciary, academia and education, trade unions, the civil service, community leaders, university students and more. They volunteer their time and effort to take part in our campaigns, help us verify rights violations, attend meetings and consultations, read and disseminate our literature, and mobilize others in their communities around the causes we espouse.
Members in good standing are invited to attend our annual general meeting. Every three years, members in good standing also elect a governing council that advises HRCP on policy matters and strategic priorities.
Eligibility
You do not have to be an HRCP member to be a human rights defender, but you do need to be a human rights defender to be a member of the organization. This also means committing fully to all our principles and beliefs (see our Mission and vision), which are based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other United Nations covenants, charters and protocols on human rights.
You must also be at least 18 years old to apply for membership.
